DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – For the second time in 2011-12, Sandy Jenkins of Ave Maria was selected as The Sun Conference Player of the Week for women’s basketball, the league office announced on Jan. 30. Jenkins, who hails from Holly Hill, Fla., averaged 20 points on 18-of-27 shooting from the field, 12 rebounds, two blocks and 3.5 steals to lead the Lady Gyrenes to a pair of wins on the week.
Against Robert Morris, the senior tallied 18 points, nine boards, three blocks and four steals in AMU’s 80-51 win. She followed that with her 12th double-double of the season in a 78-50 defeat of conference foe Soutehastern on 22 points, 15 rebounds and three steals.
