DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Sun Conference office announced the 2009 men’s soccer All-Conference teams, as well as individual award winners on Wednesday. Embry-Riddle’s Ryan Maloney and Alexis Pradie were tabbed as Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, with overall Player of the Year honors going to Maloney. ERAU head coach David Gregson was named the league’s Coach of the Year, while Southeastern’s Knox Strawbridge was voted as the Champion of Character Award winner.

A unanimous first team selection, Maloney currently leads the conference with 37 points, averaging 2.18 points per game. He is tied for the lead in goals scored with 15 and assists with seven.

Pradie anchored an Embry-Riddle defense that has surrendered just 11 goals in 17 matches and has recorded eight shutouts on the year. A two-time conference Defensive Player of the Week, Pradie also contributed to the Eagles’ offense tallying four goals and an assist.

Now in his 16th season at the helm of the Eagles’ soccer program, Gregson guided Embry-Riddle to its sixth regular season conference title in seven years. The Eagles, who are 12-3-2 overall, went undefeated in league play at 7-0-2 and enter The Sun Conference tournament as the No. 1 seed.

Strawbridge saw action in all 20 matches for Southeastern as a sophomore in 2009. Described as one of the team’s leaders by SEU head coach Drew Stacy, Strawbridge totaled five points on a goal and three assists on the year. In addition to his work on the field, Strawbridge also volunteered in the community, logging over 15 hours with an organization that works with terminally ill children. A Business major, Strawbridge is also a member of the Southeastern Leadership Institute.

Play in The Sun Conference tournament gets underway on Saturday as No. 2 Savannah College of Art and Design hosts No. 3 Warner at 3 p.m. and Embry-Riddle hosts No. 4 St. Thomas at 5 p.m. The semifinal winners will play each other at the home field of the highest remaining seed and the winner of that game will earn a spot in the NAIA National Tournament field.
