Embry-Riddle Wins Team Titles, Warner Earns Track and Field Athlete of the Year Honors

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - After two days of intense competition, the Embry-Riddle men's track and field team captured their third consecutive Sun Conference Championship trophy, while the ERAU women's team took home their first ever conference title.

The Embry-Riddle men's team, under the direction of Head Coach Mike Rosolino, earned 330 total points. Webber International was named the 2009 conference runner-up after collecting 146 points, while Warner claimed the bronze with 144 total points.

Gary Daughtery of Warner earned the title of Male Track Athlete of the Year, after posting second-place finishes in both the 100m and 200m dash. Daughtery was also a member of the men's 4x400m relay team that raced to a first-place finish in 3:16.66. The Eagles' Adam Szablowski was named the Sun Conference Field Competitor of the Year, as he earned points in four different events, including a gold medal in the javelin and two bronze medals in the shot put and hammer throw.

The Embry-Riddle women's track and field team earned 235.50 en route to their first conference championship. Webber International captured the silver with 151 points, while Warner and Florida Memorial tied for third after collecting 149 total points.

After winning the 5000m and 1500m run, Embry-Riddle's Flo Silva was named the 2009 Female Track Athlete of the Year. Silva also scored points in the 800m, as she finished fourth overall. For the second consecutive year, Nicole Pope, of Warner University, became the Sun Conference Field Competitor of the Year. She earned a total 30 points after winning the hammer throw and shot put, and finishing third overall in the javelin and fifth in the discus.
