EWC's Thomas Selected in 10th Round of MLB Draft, WU's Durham & ERAU's Goolsby Taken Thursday

SEACAUCUS, N.J. - Major League Baseball announced on Wednesday that Charles Thomas, a junior at Edward Waters, was selected as the 10th round draft choice of the Chicago Cubs in the first year players draft.
Thomas hit .336 on the season with 51 hits and 30 RBI. The first/third baseman hit eight long balls during the season while aiding his team to a 21-24 overall record.
He is the third conference baseball player to have been drafted in the top 10-rounds. The other players were SCAD's Ryan Pope and Warner's Justin Turner. Pope was drafted in the third round of the 2007 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees. Turner was taken in the eighth round of the 2001 draft by the Angels.
Warner's John Durham, a left handed pitcher, was taken in the 38th round by the St. Louis Cardinals. He was the 1,149th overall pick. On the season, Durham led the Royals with a record of 9-3 and a 3.19 ERA, throwing 84.2 innings with 70 strikeouts.
Embry-Riddle's Austin Goolsby, a catcher, was drafted in the 49th round by the San Francisco Giants. The Eagles' starting catcher, led the team with 55 RBI and 12 home runs this season, hitting .344 with 63 hits. He had a .985 fielding percentage while throwing out 18 runners and allowing only 27 stolen bases.
