Northwood, St. Thomas to Square Off in Conference Championship Game
MAIMI, Fla. Northwood and St. Thomas earned the right to play for a conference tournament title after winning their respective semifinals on Friday.
The Lady Bobcats advanced after topping tournament host Florida Memorial 64-55. After trailing for the majority of the first half, STU rallied and tied the game heading into the break. STU jumped out to a 7-0 run in the second half and never surrendered their lead. All-Conference selection Cindy Castrillon led the game in scoring with 21, while Alexandria Vanterpool added 12 points and Nicky Montina finished with 10.
Northwood was able to advance when they defeated Warner 50 – 41 in Friday's first semifinal. Both teams came out of the gate slow and went into the halftime break tied at 17. Following the intermission, the Lady Seahawks almost doubled their first half score in to put the game out of reach for Warner in the ending minutes.
For the Seahawks, senior Taylor Wencis led the team with a game high 16 points with four steals and three assists. Senior Jessica Cooley recorded the only double-double of the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds. For Warner University, Karyna Cid led her team with 12 points and eight rebounds.
