The Sun Conference Announces 2010 Men’s Tennis All-Conference Team
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The 2010 men’s and women’s tennis honor rolls were announced at The Sun Conference tournament banquet hosted by Savannah College of Art and Design at the Hampton Inn and Suites in downtown Savannah on Friday evening.
Embry-Riddle junior Jan Hoekzema took home league Player of the Year honors. He amassed a 9-9 overall record and was undefeated in league play at 3-0, playing all 18 matches at the top singles spot. He also played No. 1 doubles for the Blue and Gold and turned in a 4-0 conference record and was 18-8 overall.
Embry-Riddle Riddle head coach Dave Paschal was tabbed as the league’s Coach of the Year for the sixth year in a row. Now in his sixth season with the Eagles, Paschal led his squad to the program’s seventh Sun Conference regular season title.
Thiago Marion was honored with the inaugural men’s tennis Champion of Character award. A junior from Webber International, Marion has contributed 20 hours of community service in 2009-10 as carries a 3.5 grade point average in General Business.
Semifinal action in the conference tournament gets underway at 2 p.m. on Saturday when top-seeded Embry-Riddle take on No. 4 SCAD and No. 2 St. Thomas faces No. 3 Webber International. The tournament champion receives an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships in Mobile, Ala.
