Bunting, Hayes named NAIA All-Americans

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Savannah College of Art and Design men's golfers #Loren Bunting# and #Tom Hayes# been each been named to the NAIA All-America Second Team.

Bunting, a junior from Ocean Grove, Victoria, Australia, and Hayes, a junior from Camberley, England, are the third and fourth SCAD players to be named to an All-America team in the program’s history and are the third since SCAD rejoined the NAIA in 2003.

Bunting was named to PING/Golf Coaches Association of America All-America first team last week and was also named to the NAIA All-America second team last year. Clint Colbert was named to the NCAA Division III All-America teams in 2001 and 2002 while Colin Kelley was named to the NAIA All-America team in 2007.

Bunting recorded the second-lowest single-season scoring average this season. Bunting averaged 73.14 strokes in 21 rounds for the Bees. Bunting recorded five top-10 performances in the seven tournaments he competed in during the season, including two in the top five. Bunting tied the university record for the low 18-hole score (65) during the second round of the Wilmington Island Club Intercollegiate. Bunting also set university records for 36-hole (137) and 54-hole (208) scores as he won the tournament. Bunting also recorded a second-place finish at the Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate.

Hayes was named the Co-Player of the Year in The Sun Conference this season as he averaged 74.50 strokes in 24 rounds for SCAD. Hayes recorded three top-five finishes for the Bees during the season. He finished in second place at the Wilmington Island Club Intercollegiate and came in fifth at both the Flagler College Men’s Intercollegiate and The Sun Conference Championship.

The Bees, who were ranked as high as No. 2 in the NAIA during the season, earned an at-large berth to the NAIA National Championship this season for the fifth time in the past six years. The Bees finished in a tie for ninth place at the national tournament earlier this month at the TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. It was the best-ever finish at the NAIA tournament in the program’s history.
