Florida Memorial Women's Track Team Takes Fifth at National Championships

MARION, Ind. -- The Florida Memorial women’s Track and Field team finished fifth at the 2010 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships held on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University with a total of 41 points.

Led by impressive performances by sophomore Anika Baptiste, who earned national titles in two events, the Lady Lions were able to obtain their best finish at the National Championship since 2006. Baptiste did an outstanding job as she won the 100 meters on Friday and came back on Saturday to capture a win in the 200 meters.

Ashley Hanna earned All-American Honors for her third place finish in the 400 meters, while Jessica Townsend earned All-American Honors for her fourth-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 14:30.

The women's 4x100M Relay team also earned All-American Honors for their fifth place finish. The quartet consisting of Baptiste, Townsend, Hanna and Shanika Kirkland ran a time of 46.92.

Hanna and Kirkland were also part of the women’s 4 X 400 relay team that finished fifth in the finals. Hanna and Kirkland were joined by Javonay Wilson and Juliette Normil, earning All-America honors with a time of 3:48.58.
