SCAD sweeps titles at Gamecock Invitational

FORT JACKSON, S.C. –
For the second consecutive year, the SCAD Savannah women's cross country team swept individual and team Division II titles at the Gamecock Invitational Friday (Sept. 3) evening.

It was the fourth time in the past two seasons that the Bees turned the feat.

The Bees won the three-team meet also with 25 points, 20 better than the University of South Carolina Aiken and 25 more than University of South Carolina Beaufort. It was the 12th women’s team title in the program’s history.

In the 5K race Hannah Lieberman won the race for the Bees with a time of 19:09.89. Sarah Caskey, who won the individual title in 2009, came in second for SCAD with a time of 19:32.67. The Bees had three other runners – Megan O’Boyle (sixth, 21:02.15), Natalie Johnson (seventh, personal best 21:03.65) and Heather Riniker (ninth, 21:11.17) – registered top-10 finishes. Lauren Soutar also placed 17th for the Bees with a personal-best time of 23:47.16 and Claire Wind came in 24th with a time of 28:02.66. Former SCAD runner Tracy Koch ran unattached in the meet and came in with a time of 22:12.04.

SCAD returns to action next Friday (Sept. 10) at 5 p.m. when they compete at the Bobcat Invitational in Milledgeville, Ga.
