STU volleyball makes statement with 3-0 sweep over SCAD

Miami Gardens, FL- The STU Women's Volleyball team started their season the right way, their first match in conference play ended in a sweep over SCAD (25-13, 25-19, 27-25). This win comes at the right time for STU who was picked to finish fourth in the pre-season poll voted by The Sun Conference coaches.
STU got off to quick start on the first set, the were able to dominate righ off the gate winning the set comfortably at 25-13. The second set was also taken by the Bobcats 25-19 while the third set saw a back and forth battle but the Bobcats regrouped and were able to claim the set 27-25 to seal the victory.
Leading the Bobcats was Betina Schmidt who had a complete game overall with 3 kills, 19 digs, 12 assists, 1 solo block, 3 block assissted and 2 aces.The season opener unveiled the brand new gym at the Fernandez Family Center as well as a new team for the Women's Volleyball program under new leadership.
This win brings St. Thomas record to 1-0 in conference play, making them tied for first place. They will continue action on Saturday sept. 4th at 2 p.m. vs conference member Edward Waters College.
