Sun Conference Announces 2014 Gold Glove Team
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Sun Conference office has released the 2014 Gold Glove team for the 2014 season following the regular season and conference tournament. All nine student-athletes will move on to the Rawlings-NAIA Gold Glove national ballot.
1B - Hunter Bruehl, Embry-Riddle (Junior - Apopka, Fla.)
Bruehl was impressive at first base during his first year with the Eagles. The junior from Apopka, Fla. committed just three errors in 403 chances, recording 371 putouts, 29 assists and a .993 fielding percentage. Bruehl was part of 25 of the 36 double plays turned by ERAU in 2014.
2B - Jordan Johnson, Embry-Riddle (Senior - Daytona Beach, Fla.)
The Eagles' Johnson flashed the leather at second as a senior, collecting 112 putouts, 142 assists and turning 25 double plays with a .977 fielding percentage. Johnson's 142 assists ranked second in The Sun Conference.
3B - Ryan Walker, USCB (Senior - Charleston, S.C.)
Playing the hot corner, the Sand Sharks' Walker recorded 44 assists, 17 putouts and turned two double plays. A senior from Charleston, S.C., Walker posted a .924 fielding percentage.
SS - Jake Desuyo, Thomas (Junior - Middleburg, Fla.)
The Night Hawks' shortstop in 2014 recorded 139 assists and 70 putouts as a junior with a .941 fielding percentage. Desuyo, a native of Middleburg, Fla., was part of 20 double plays in 222 chances.
LF - Chris Suto, Webber International (Senior - Longwood, Fla.)
Suto was perfect in the outfield for the Warriors in 2014, committing no errors in 135 chances. The Longwood, Fla. native collected three assists with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
CF - Ryne Knuth, Southeastern (Junior - Lake Wales, Fla.)
Knuth, a junior from Lake Wales, Fla., also posted a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000. Knuth had 109 putouts and eight assists whith one double play on his season resume.
RF - Adam Duarte, St. Thomas (Sophomore - Miami Lakes, Fla.)
The only underclassmen on the 2014 Gold Glove team, Duarte made just two errors in 107 chances with 97 putouts, eight assists and two double plays for a .981 fielding percentage for the Bobcats.
C - Conor Sullivan, Ave Maria (Junior - Chicago, Ill.)
Last season's Rawling-NAIA Gold Glove winner behind the plate, Sullivan again had a terrific season as the Gyrenes' backstop. The Chicago, Ill. native had just three errors in 297 chances with 247 putouts, 47 assists while throwing out 22 of 46 base stealers as a junior.
P - Alan Carey, Northwood (Junior - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Northwood's Carey helped his own cause on the mound with a 1.000 fielding percentage as a junior. Carey had five putouts and 17 assists while turning a double play for the Seahawks.
