Keiser Advances to Second Straight TSC Championship Game
Hardeeville, South Carolina – The second-seed Keiser defeated third-seeded St. Thomas 6-1 in the semifinals of The Sun Conference tournament Friday afternoon at the SCAD Athletic Complex. With the win the Seahawks advance to their second straight women’s soccer Sun Conference championship game against Thomas tomorrow night at 5 p.m.
Keiser (14-2-1) struck first in the 15th minute as Sodia Kristensson sent the ball up to Amanda Blixt, who got behind the defense for the first goal of the contest. Seven minutes later, Johanna Engberg ran a give and go with Blixt and fired a shot to the lower right hand corner of the net for the goal. The score remained 2-0 until the 38th minute when Linnea Lindmark sent a corner kick into the box, Engberg found the ball in the scramble and netted her second goal of the game. Keiser struck one more time before the break as Lindmark found Louise Andersson for the goal to give the Seahawks a 4-0 lead at the break.
It was a similar story in the second half as Beth Symth sent a cross to Renee Brown for the goal to extend Keiser lead to 5-0. St. Thomas (11-7) responded in the 83rd minute as Amyah Banks found Sarah Thomsson, who made one touch and fired a goal to cut the lead to 5-1. Keiser would score one more time for the 6-1 final.
Keiser outshot the Bobcats 19-10 in the game.
Both Cristina Garwack of St. Thomas and Felicia Sedell of Keiser finished the game with five saves.
