DADE CITY, Fla.—In a tie for the lead on a day when four other teams shot even or under par as a team, the No. 4 Wildcats of Johnson and Wales were going to need a special effort to defend their conference title.

Coach A.J. Broderick got exactly that from his team.

The Wildcats put up an eye-popping 10-under 278 as a team to secure the 2016 Sun Conference title at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.

With the win, the Wildcats secure an automatic berth in the NAIA National Championship at TPC Deer Run in Moline, Illinois.

Individual medalist Peter French closed with a round of 71, easily clearing USCB’s Brad Curren and Southeastern’s Carlos Ardila by six shots, finishing eight-under for the 54-hole tournament. He was supported by a pair of 68’s in the third round from Jake Bauer and Alex Rainville. Cam Salo checked in with a 71 on the day. Matt Morin was an even-par 72.

Keiser finished second, nine shots back with a 287 in the third round. Louis Hirst had the low round on the team with a 69, and was backed up by a 70 from Charlie Stubbs.

Southeastern finished third, seven shots behind Keiser, posting an even-par 288 in the final round. Ardila finished two-under, and Ignacio Estrada was one-under at 71.

Thomas moved into fourth place thanks to a one-under 287 as a team, getting a 70 from A.J. Finley, and USCB finished one shot behind Webber International in sixth, posting a two-under 286 in Round 3.
