The Sun Conference honored the following players for their performance during the week of Feb. 27:

BASEBALL

Pitcher of the Week: St. Thomas’ Kenny Roder lifted the Bobcats to a series win over Thomas with a complete game shutout of the Night Hawks on Saturday. Roder struck out eight and allowed four hits and one walk in the 7-0 victory.

Player of the Week: USCB’s Thomas Estopare was a big spark at the top of the lineup for the Sand Sharks in a three-game sweep of Warner, going 7-for-14 with two doubles, two walks, three runs and nine RBIs. He also was 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts. Estopare went 4-for-6 with six RBIs in the series opener, helping USCB win a 15-12 slugfest.

SOFTBALL

Pitcher of the Week: USCB’s Abby Pac played a role in all three of the Sand Sharks’ wins over the weekend, earning wins over No. 24 Rio Grande and Pikeville and nailing down the save in Game 2 against Pikeville to secure the sweep. The sophomore right-hander allowed two runs and 11 hits in 15 innings with 15 strikeouts and five walks.

Player of the Week: USCB’s Carrie Cochran had a breakout weekend at the plate, going 7-for-13 with a double, a triple, two homers, six runs and eight RBIs. Her first blast was a grand slam against No. 24 Rio Grande that marked USCB's first home run of the season. She also drew a walk and had a stolen base and was outstanding defensively at third base, handling 10 chances without an error. 

TENNIS

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week: Southeastern’s Tomas Ortega helped the Fire win two key points in a 6-3 upset win over SCAD-Atlanta, which is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25. At No. 3 doubles, he and Felipe Barbosa came away with an 8-5 win, then in singles play, Ortega won a first-set tie breaker to win 7-6, then 6-4 in the second.  

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week: Keiser’s Megane Bianco finished the week with a 4-0 record, picking up two wins in singles and two wins in doubles play. Bianco did not drop a single game in her two wins against Ave Maria and claimed the No. 1 singles and doubles matches against NCAA Division I Oakland on Friday in Orlando, Fla.

GOLF

Men’s Golfer of the Week: USCB’s Newport Laparojkit shot 3-under-par to finish in third place and lead the Sand Sharks to a runner-up finish at the Invitational at Savannah Harbor. USCB was the only non-NCAA Division I team in the 14-team field.

Women’s Golfer of the Week: Keiser’s Elsa Westin earned her second victory of the season and the 12th of her career, shooting even-par 144 to win the Georgetown College Invitational. Westin posted rounds of 73 and 71 to pace the field of 72 golfers and lead the Seahawks to the team title in the 13-team event.
