Webber Claims 2018 Sun Conference Baseball Tournament Title

The top seeded Bobcats jumped on the scoreboard first as Daniel Lowry came through with a two-out RBI single to center in the bottom of the second and tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth on Randy Oliva’s sacrifice fly and a wild pitch to claim a 3-0 lead.

St. Thomas added three more runs in the fifth on a Sergio Lopez’ RBI double to left and a pair of fielder’s choices, and pushed across five more runs over the final two innings, forcing the winner-take-all-championship game.

The Bobcats recorded 17 hits in the game led by Lopez, Lowry, and Nick Izquierdo, with three hits apiece. Danger Guevara remained unbeaten on the year, improving to 5-0 while striking out three over 5.1 innings.

For the Warriors, Manny Rodriguez and Marcus Begg combined for four of WIU’s six hits in the game. Webber starting pitcher Zak Spivy tossed four innings in the loss, and drops to 6-7 on the year.

The 2018 Sun Conference Tournament championship game was a pitcher’s duel between both squads as the lone run of the game came off a wild pitch in the sixth.

Webber loaded the bases in the sixth via a hit by pitch, infield single, and a walk, all coming with two-outs. A wild pitch then allowed Quirino Esquivel to race home for the only run of the contest.

The Warriors Juan Terron went the distance as he held the Bobcats to two hits whie striking out five in the process.  
Langston Provitt led the way at the plate for the Warriors, going 3-for-3 with a walk while Alex Rodriguez added a pair of hits.

The two Bobcat hits came off the bats of Erick Delgado and Chrs Garabedian. On the mound, starting pitcher Miguel Rodriguez struck out three over four innings and took a no decision.

The 2018 Tournament Championship is the first in program history for the Warriors.
